The California Highway Patrol is warning motorists of hazardous conditions on the Grapevine along north- and southbound Interstate 5 due to a storm bringing heavy rain, strong winds, limited visibility, and the possibility of snow.
CHP officials said on Thursday that driving at high speeds or aggressively in these conditions greatly increases the risk of crashes, with unsafe speed cited as the leading cause of accidents during inclement weather.
Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain a safe following distance, avoid abrupt lane changes, turn on headlights, buckle up, and minimize distractions.
Motorists are also advised to ensure their vehicles are in good working order, including checking tires and windshield wipers, and to allow extra travel time to reach destinations safely.
