BRASELTON, Ga. — Former Braselton Police Chief Michael Steffman was arrested Wednesday, hours after town officials announced his "retirement and resignation."
Jackson County Jail records show that a Michael Steffman was booked at 4:12 p.m. on multiple charges. A source confirmed to 11Alive that the Steffman arrested is the now-former police chief.
Charges filed include violation of oath by public officer, a felony, and misdemeanor stalking. Steffman is also charged with harassing phone calls and six charges for illegal use of law enforcement license plate data.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the Jackson County Sheriff's Office requested the GBI's assistance to investigate the allegations against Steffman.
