APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Big changes could soon be coming to Valley Transit’s downtown Appleton hub, as a new transit center is taking shape, and it’s about more than just bus service.
Preliminary discussions indicate it will blend public transport with new housing above it.
It’s an exciting project that Valley Transit believes will help transform the downtown area.
A full rebuild is coming to 100 East Washington Street, as Valley Transit is set to replace its current 40-year-old facility, a building that general manager Ron McDonald says is past due for upgrades.
“The biggest thing for us is safety, security, upgraded passenger amenities, better accessibility, maybe some new technology,” says McDonald.
Backed by a $25 million federal grant, the new center will feature covered bus bays
