NEW RIVER, Tenn. — For nearly a year, a section of state Route 116 has been down to one lane in New River after a slide destroyed part of the road.
"If this were Interstate 40, what would be happening?" Odis Phillips, a New River resident, said.
Those in the area say the road is already dangerous, but when things like this make it even worse.
"It's dangerous with the lights not working like they are, and it's really dangerous when someone comes through and ignores the red light," Phillips said.
The road is already known for being narrow and curvy, and with one lane closed, drivers have to be extra cautious — especially school bus drivers.
"I worry about them, and we have two really good bus drivers. But, you know, you can only do so much," Phillips said.
