SYOSSET, New York (WABC) -- Heavy flames caused part of a house in Syosset to collapse.

Flames and thick black smoke could be seen shooting from the roof.

First responders arrived to the scene on Cold Spring Road just after 2 a.m. on Friday.

The fire apparently started on the outside of the home and extended up the roof line of the home where it quickly spread.

It took approximately 200 firefighters to battle the fire which reached a second alarm. It was brought under control in about an hour.

A family of three adults and their dog were able to escape. The Red Cross was assisting the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
