Have you ever tasted Madeira? Proper Madeira I mean? Something from a renowned house like Blandy, Henrique & Henrique or one of my all time favourites Pereira d’Olivera?
The company was founded in 1820 and is still run by the same family today. They even have stock that dates back to 1850 which in itself is rather incredible. You can literally drink history when you open Madeira and almost as if some sort of alchemy was involved, the wines are perfect no matter how old.
Madeira comes in 4 main styles, Sercial which is the driest, Verdelho or medium dry, Boal which is medium sweet and finally Malmsey which is the sweetest.
