DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - Inmates have returned to the DeKalb County Jail after a power outage and fire led to temporary transfers.
According to DeKalb County Sheriff Brady Thomas, the power outage occurred at the facility around 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
He says that while the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a fire sparked as they were trying to fix a mechanical unit.
While authorities worked to restore power and complete cleanup and odor remediation, the jail’s 80 inmates were moved to facilities in LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben counties.
According to Thomas, the jail’s power was restored, and cleanup and odor remediation were completed Thursday evening.
