Alberta’s minister of justice says the provincial government played no role in the alleged firing of two senior lawyers from the Edmonton Crown prosecutor’s office.

Asked about the unexpected departure last week of Chief Crown Scott Niblock and a deputy, Mickey Amery said no one in his office or the public service was involved in the decision, which he attributed to Elizabeth Wheaton, the career prosecutor recently appointed as acting head of the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS).
