Nation elects Ellery Starlight as head chief
The results of Tsuut’ina Nation’s head chief and minor chief elections are in, and neither of the two former chiefs charged with sexual assault were re-elected.
A list of nominees posted in October included both former chief Roy Whitney and former minor chief Emmet Crowchild, both of whom faced sexual assault charges earlier this year.

Tsuut’ina’s newly elected head chief is Ellery Starlight, who previously served on the Nation’s council and played an instrumental role in the establishment of Tsuut’ina’s Peacemaker Court, which combines the Alberta court system with the Indigenous Peacemaker process.
Starlight is also known as an advocate for Indigenous rights.
