SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Community Police Review Board failed to reach a decision Thursday on a viral detainment case involving a teenage girl, leaving the matter unresolved due to insufficient board members present to vote .
The board was scheduled to make a final decision regarding the officer who detained then-14-year-old Bria Chatman outside a South Bend McDonald’s in August. Video of the incident circulated widely on social media .
“I wanted a change, but it didn’t happen,” Chatman said in an exclusive interview with WNDU on Friday.
Chatman, now 15, said she was not surprised by the delay but maintains the officer used excessive force during her detention.
“Anybody can look at me. I’m 4-foot-10, 100 pounds, it’s definitely excessive force,” she said.
