COLUMBIA — The Columbia Office of Violence Prevention is proposing a pilot program that would place trained community workers on city buses to improve safety.

The community navigation liaisons project will get a first read at the Dec. 1 Columbia City Council meeting.

Office of Violence Prevention Administrator D'Markus Thomas-Brown said the goal is to make buses safer and more supportive for everyone.

"The navigation liaisons are there to help those who are on the bus transition to adequate services," Thomas-Brown said.

The Office of Violence Prevention is proposing a $99,840 contract with the Powerhouse Community Development Corporation.
