PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon is rolling out artificial intelligence tools across state government — but to ensure data privacy, Gov. Tina Kotek appointed a chief privacy officer and strategist.

Meet Nik Blosser, chief of staff to former Gov. Kate Brown, special assistant to former President Joe Biden, and now, the man leading the charge and setting the guiderails on how artificial intelligence is to be implemented in Oregonian's everyday government services.

Oregon is ahead of many states in providing AI access to all employees, Blosser said. He's encouraging agency leaders to develop AI adoption plans tailored to their organizations' needs, whether they have 5,000 employees like the Oregon Health Authority or just 10 like some smaller boards and commissions.
