LSU has indicated that it is open to bringing former head coach Ed Orgeron back as an assistant if it hires Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin as the football program’s new head coach, CBS Sports reports .
Kiffin and Orgeron first worked together when they were on the same staff at Southern California from from 2001-04. Orgeron was Kiffin’s assistant head coach and defensive line coach during his one season as head coach at Tennessee. Orgeron then landed at USC when Kiffin served there as head coach from 2010-13.
Kiffin has been considered LSU’s top target from the outset since Brian Kelly was fired last month following a 49-25 loss to Texas A&M in Baton Rouge.
