DALLAS — A federal indictment against two young North Texans, Gavin Weisenburg and Tanner Thomas, reads like the plot of a bizarre fiction novel. However, these are not fictional events, but serious allegations involving a planned military coup on the Island of Gonave , located off the coast of Haiti.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the pair allegedly plotted to seize control of the island, home to around 87,000 people. The indictment claims their plan involved "murder[ing} all the men on the island" and "turning the remaining women and children into sex slaves."
The U.S. Attorneys Office also contends the two reportedly intended to recruit the local homeless population to help carry out the plan.
