BON AQUA JUNCTION, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Hickman County family is picking up the pieces after a fire destroyed their home on Monday.
Authorities said someone was reportedly burning wood, and wind caused flames to spread to the property. At the time of the fire, two parents and their five children were inside.
“It was a very young family with multiple children, one being an infant. Unfortunately, all of their possessions and the structure are a total loss,” East Hickman Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kevin Baxter said.
Agencies from across the area responded to Monday’s fire. Crews were able to control the fire and get all of the occupants out safely.
Despite their efforts, multiple cats died in the blaze.
In the wake of the tragedy, a grassroots effort is underway to support the family.
