VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is facing several charges after Visalia police found drugs and guns in his car following a crash in Visalia on Friday.

A Visalia police officer attempted to stop a car for expired tags just before 9:00 p.m. near Court St. and Shannon Parkway.

The driver, 36-year-old Refugio Ortega, continued driving and entered a construction zone, where he crashed into a ditch.

Ortega ran from the car and discarded several loaded firearms and drugs along the way until he was caught and arrested.

Authorities also found a large amount of marijuana in the car.

Two women were also in the car and were treated for minor injuries from the crash.

Ortega faces several charges, including possession of marijuana for sale and hit and run.
