NORMAL ( 25News Now ) - More than 700 people showed up on Saturday to support the family of 13-year-old Edder Diaz. He was the Parkside Junior High seventh grader and athlete who died earlier this month from injuries he suffered in a mobile home fire .
The Redder for Edder three mile run and walk at Maxwell Park in Normal raised just over $20,000 for Edder’s family, said event organizer Paul Bliss who was also Edder’s cross country coach. Originally, the goal was to raise $10,000.
Bliss said calling the event Redder for Edder was the idea of Edder’s sister. Red was Edder’s favorite color.
