LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in the Southside neighborhood Saturday night.

Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Dep. Chief Ryan Bates said 4th Division officers were called to the 100 block of East Southland Boulevard around 9:55 p.m. Saturday for reports of a person being robbed at gunpoint.

Bates says once officers were on scene, they found a person walking down the street who matched the suspect description.

Bates says the person then fled from police and pulled out a handgun, which is when two LMPD officer fired their guns, striking the person.

Bates says the person was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.

"This reminds us of the dangers officer face every day," said Bates.

No officers were injured and a gun was recovered at the scene
