Instead, the Mets delivered a major surprise on Sunday by trading longtime fan favorite Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for veteran infielder Marcus Semien.

The move stunned the fanbase because Nimmo has been with the Mets for 10 seasons. He had just completed the third season of the new contract he signed after becoming a free agent in 2022. The 32-year-old still had 5 seasons remaining on his 8-year, $162 million deal, but he agreed to waive his no-trade clause to make the move happen.
