At least one person died and 10 others were injured after a car ploughed into a crowd in Japan. The car smashed into a crowd of around 12 people in central Tokyo before he attempted to run away from the scene.

A man in his 80s walking in the street was said to have died from the impact after the incident at 12.30pm on Monday in the city’s Adachi Ward.

Among the injured, a woman in her 20s was found unconscious and in a serious condition; she was rushed to the hospital, where she remains.

After the driver fled, Tokyo Police officers managed to chase down the suspect after around 500m. He has now been arrested as the incident is continuing to be investigated as a hit and run.
