The family of a strongman competitor say they are "all very proud" after he became the strongest junior in the world.

Alfie Sharplin, 19, from Claydon, overcame competitors from across the globe to become the strongest junior in the world at the Official Strongman Games on Thursday.

His family watched the competition from home as Alfie achieved 31 points to claim top prize in Texas.

"It is amazing. None of us could believe it," said his sister Kelsey Stone.

"We are all very proud and all watching from home. He has got a nice and nephew and they should have been in bed but even they stayed up.

The event saw Alfie compete in four different competitions, with the aim to complete in each one in the fastest time possible.
