The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is grieving the sudden death of Kenneth Kavana Mkese, who graduated in absentia just two days ago with a Bachelor of Science in Agroforestry.
Mkese, widely known on campus for his energy and leadership, was an active sportsman and captain of the university’s hockey team. The Hockey Association of Malawi, in a tribute posted on its Facebook page, described him as a dedicated and talented player whose influence will be remembered.
According to LUANAR, Mkese had been unwell prior to the graduation ceremony, prompting him to receive his degree in absentia. Details of the illness have not been disclosed.
