Reggae icon Jimmy Cliff, celebrated for his timeless contribution to global music and the rise of Jamaican reggae, has died at the age of 81.
According to the BBC, Cliff—whose career dates back to the 1960s—played a pivotal role in popularising reggae worldwide through classics such as “Wonderful World, Beautiful People” and “The Harder They Come.”
Beyond music, Cliff was also an accomplished actor. He starred in the landmark 1972 film The Harder They Come, a production widely credited with bringing reggae and Jamaican culture to the international stage.
His death was confirmed by his wife, Latifa Chambers, through a statement on Instagram.
