LAS VEGAS — Michigan has won a couple of close games already this season after doing it repeatedly in Dusty May’s first year as coach. May has said he’d prefer the Wolverines figure out how to get some separation, with his thought being Michigan will lose half of its nail-biters.

The last time May and San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher faced off, that’s exactly what happened. Lamont Butler’s midrange jumper at the buzzer gave the Aztecs a 72-71 win over May’s Florida Atlantic team in a 2023 Final Four game.

Michigan and San Diego State will meet Monday night in the Players Era Championship at Michelob Ultra Arena. Tipoff is set for 10:30 p.m. ET (7:30 local time) on truTV, provided the event’s previous game at the gym finishes on time.
