A warning has been issued for Black Friday after it was revealed online fraudsters scammed Scots out of £1m in the past year. ‌

Advice Direct Scotland, which operates the national service consumeradvice.scot, is urging shoppers to stay vigilant as they hunt for bargains amid their new figures which show Scots are losing more than £2,500 a day to online scammers. ‌

During 2024, the charity recorded a total of 1,031 cases which resulted in combined financial losses of £946,126, equivalent to £2,592 being lost to online scams every day. ‌

The true scale of the losses could be significantly higher given the figures only relate to cases that were reported.
