A giant cassette tape, Tetris on wheels and the Ghostbusters’ Ectomobile rolled through the halls of Hutchinson High School last week, spewing candy and blasting ’80s jams — all for the annual homecoming parade.
The career technical high school has a unique take on a classic tradition.
“It basically started because we were seeing other schools have homecoming but with no football team, we never had a reason to,” Arts and A/V teacher Ben Johnson said.
Since 2008, Hutch has celebrated homecoming in a distinct way. Each of the five major Career Clusters — Automotive, Arts and A A/V Technology & Communications, Information Technology (IT), Architecture and Construction, and Health Science — design and build floats according to the theme and their craft.
