A decision to allow a Derby family home to be turned into shared housing on a street dubbed “HMO road” has been slammed.

Residents have been calling for greater protection on Brighton Road in Alvaston to limit the number of HMOs (Houses of Multiple Occupation) granted there. The campaign started more than two years ago amid claims the road was “losing its character” .

The campaign claimed Brighton Road was turning into “HMO Road” with family homes disappearing into rooms for individuals. They have previously told Derby councillors this was creating huge parking problems.
