KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Anyone traveling through Tennessee for the Thanksgiving holiday got some good news from TDOT Monday morning when the department announced that lane closure activities for Thanksgiving would be put on hold.
“TDOT will halt all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher traffic volumes across the state,” TDOT said in a news release.
The pause on closures will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at noon and will go until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.
“Thanksgiving remains the most traveled holiday of the year,” said TDOT Commissioner Will Reid, P.E. “Halting road work during this time will provide maximum capacity on our highways and help alleviate congestion, especially during the predicted peak travel days of Wednesday and Sunday.”
