MUSKEGON, MI - A charity fishing tournament and kayaking program could be in jeopardy if the city of Muskegon approves a proposed land swap deal.
Each year, the DreamWeaver Charity Salmon Tournament takes place at Fisherman’s Landing, along with the Watch Us Go Boating kayaking program that aims to give children and adults their first experiences out on the water.
The proposed plan is for the Mart Dock port company boat-storage facility on Third Street downtown to move to Fisherman’s Landing, 501 E Western Ave. with two-thirds of the property then used for port operations.
Port operations could potentially increase and expand, with the ability to bring in larger cruise ships. The 109-site campground would be removed from the waterfront park along Muskegon Lake.
