LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton’s historic budget proposal, which totals more than $832 million, is increasing funding for weather emergency prevention.
Lexington introduced its annual budget proposal for 2025 to 2026, with critical plans and historic implications.
Councilmember-at-large, James Brown said the council is carefully reviewing the proposal.
“The mayor listened to councilmembers this year and included some of their priorities in the budget,” Brown said.
Gorton said this is the first budget since 2021 that won’t include federal American Rescue Act funding. It lays out nearly $30 million for sewer improvements and $4.8 million for fire and EMS vehicle upgrades. After this year’s winter storms, Gorton said there’s a big jump in spending, from $250,000 to $3.4 mil
