A blowout win against a ranked team in a national showcase helped Michigan State men’s basketball shoot up the national rankings.
The Spartans (5-0), who thumped Kentucky 83-66 in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden last week , shot up six spots to No. 11 in the latest AP Top 25, which was released on Monday. They closed the week with an 84-56 victory against Detroit Mercy on Friday and their six-spot jump was the biggest in this week’s poll. Kentucky dropped seven spots to No. 19 after its second loss of the season.
Michigan State is 5-0 for the first time in five years and will put its unbeaten record to the test in a Thanksgiving tournament this week. The Spartans open the Fort Myers Tip-Off against East Carolina (2-3) on Tuesday (1 p.m., FS2) before facing No. 16 North C
