GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — A man is in custody after he allegedly murdered his stepfather and tried to kill his mother at their Gilbert home over the weekend.

Gary Crawford, 56, is jailed on charges including first-degree murder in the death of 91-year-old Oscar Casdorph.

Around 6 p.m. on Saturday, Gilbert police officers were called to conduct a welfare check at a home on Stratford Avenue, near McQueen and Elliot roads . A concerned family member had called 911 after her father, Casdorph, and her stepmother had missed dinner plans and weren’t answering the door.

Police went inside the house and found Casdorph dead, along with a seriously injured 81-year-old woman. Both had what police describe as obvious signs of trauma. The couple’s car was also missing.
