Police in Nottinghamshire have initiated a murder investigation following the discovery of a body linked to the case of a missing pensioner. The body of a 52-year-old man was found in an outbuilding at a farm near Newark shortly after 10.15am on Saturday. While the death is not being treated as suspicious, authorities believe it may be connected to the disappearance of 82-year-old Brian Wright, who was reported missing from the area on November 20. Despite the ongoing search for Mr Wright, detectives have received intelligence suggesting he is deceased, prompting the homicide investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow stated, "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected by this tragic incident. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death is ongoing." She reassured the community, saying, "At this early stage, we believe all parties to be known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public." Burrow also urged the public to respect the privacy of the affected families during this difficult time, noting that they are being supported by specially trained officers. In compliance with protocol, the police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous contact with the families involved. Officers remain active in the area, conducting inquiries and encouraging anyone with concerns to approach them. The police are appealing for information that could assist in the investigation. They have asked anyone with relevant details to call 101, quoting incident number 193 of 22 November 2025, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
