The Louisiana National Guard will be activated in New Orleans this weekend in an effort to increase public safety as visitors descend on the city for the Bayou Classic football game.
The National Guard, Louisiana State Police, and local law enforcement will implement an "enhanced security zone" from Friday through Sunday that includes checkpoints, bag searches, and a ban on coolers, as they did during Mardi Gras and Super Bowl LIX earlier this year, according to Jacob Pucheu, a spokesperson for the Louisiana State Police.
The zone will extend from Canal Street to St. Ann Street, between Royal and Dauphine Streets.
