A man who was arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault will be questioned for longer, police have confirmed.

The attack took place in Stowmarket between 5.45am and 6am on Wednesday, along a path off Iliffe Way.

A woman, aged in her 30s, reported that while out running she was pulled to the ground and sexually assaulted by an unknown man.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of attempted rape and sexual assault and was taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre for questioning.

Following an application for a warrant of further detention made by detectives at Ipswich Crown Court, police have now been granted an additional 29 hours to question the suspect.

The added time will expire at 10pm on Tuesday.
