ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — MARTA has started load tests on some new train cars, but in a unique way.
On Monday, the public transit agency posted photos on X/Twitter showing sandbags being used to simulate passenger weight on its new CQ400 train cars.
“Our new CQ400 trains are putting in work,” MARTA said in the post.

According to MARTA, this process of load testing is making sure rides will be safe and smooth for passengers.
The first set of the new trains is scheduled to roll out in April 2026.
Interim MARTA CEO Jonathan Hunt said MARTA is planning to have nine to 12 new train cars in service by the time of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
