SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System (SCRSWS) says starting Jan. 1, 2026, it will increase garbage rates by 4% and yard waste by 10% to cover rising costs for waste disposal and maintaining the operating systems.
SCRSWS also announced that there will be a new fee for Appliance Disposal.
On Jan. 1, 2026, the county’s two transfer stations will charge a special handling fee of $30 for each appliance containing refrigerant/freon, in addition to the regular garbage rate by weight. This includes refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and water coolers.
All other appliances, such as dishwashers, microwaves, and washers/dryers, will remain at the regular garbage rate.
