OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An old ice cream shop is serving a new purpose.

It is being used as a pop-up Thanksgiving food pantry and the shelves are stocked up thanks to donations from the community.

“I am so grateful for this,” said North Omaha resident Alicia Avant. “This is beautiful, I really, really appreciate this.”

With just a few days before Thanksgiving, Alicia Avant stopped by Frosty’s Ice Cream in West Omaha, grabbing essentials for her mom.

“She is a nurse practitioner and recently lost her job,” said Alicia. “So I really wanted to support her and my dad out.”

Alicia tells First Alert 6 seeing her mom struggling hurts.

“It was really hard for her, she is being strong, it is really hard to see,” said Alicia. “So, I just wanted to do my part and help my family out.”
