WACO, Texas — Art Briles has been named the next head football coach at Eastern New Mexico University, the school announced Monday, marking his return to the college sidelines nearly a decade after being dismissed from Baylor amid a high-profile scandal.
Director of athletics Kevin Fite said he is confident in the hire.
“I am excited to welcome Art (Briles) to Eastern New Mexico University,” Fite said. “He is an excellent coach, and I look forward to the future of Greyhound football.”
Briles, a native of Rule, Texas, has coached for more than 40 years. The 2013 AP College Football Coach of the Year led Houston and Baylor to 10 combined bowl games and compiled a 99-65 college record.
