BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — Bastrop County has extended its burn ban throughout unincorporated parts of the county, officials announced on Monday.

Bastrop County Judge Gregory Klaus extended a burn ban order that was set to expire on Nov. 24 now until Monday, Dec. 8, at midnight. Officials said the conditions in the unincorporated area creates a "public safety hazard" that would be made worse by outdoor burning.

Officials said even though the county may have experienced rain, outdoor burning remains prohibited.

Anyone that violates the ban is subject to a Class C misdemeanor that is punishable of a fine up to $500.
