Newly discovered live recordings of one of punk rock's most influential bands gets its release Friday —45 years after it was captured at a D.C. nightclub.

Bad Brains, hardcore punk pioneers with a reputation for wild live shows, leapt to the forefront of the punk music scene in 1979 when lead singer HR jumped from the balcony of the Bayou nightclub onto the stage.

“Yeah, yeah. That was, that was pretty wild, because we were, you know, really psyched to play,” bassist Darryl Jenifer said. “And the amps were feeding back, and the energy was building. Where's HR?

“So, I kind of just looked, and then he came flying down from up top,” Jenifer said. “But when he hit the stage, we took off.”
