JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Missouri Public Service Commission approved new rates Monday, hoping to protect the public from bill increases due to big data centers.
The commission voted unanimously to accept Ameren Missouri’s tariff proposal for customers using 75 megawatts of electricity per month. Those levels are usually hit by large load customers, such as data centers.
The new tariff also includes exit fees if data centers try to leave earlier than their contract states, and a fee if their energy usage does not match what they asked for.
The measures are designed to keep general electric rates from going up when a data center moves in.
