City council gave its support to another proposal that could see a 200 MW battery storage energy facility on Great Northern Road.

The project, Gateway BESS, is a partnership between EDP Renewables and Samsung Renewable Energy.

EDPR has a variety of wind, solar and storage projects already operational across North America, including some in southern Ontario and southern Alberta, as well as across the United States and Mexico.

The company describes itself as “a leading developer, owner and operator of renewable energy assets.”

Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. Is part of the Samsung C&T Corporation’s company portfolio, focusing its renewable development in Canada and has developments in Ontario, and Prince Edward Island, with plans to expand to other provinces.
