Jorge Calderon is grieving the loss of his beloved Chihuahua, Barkley, who was attacked and killed by a coyote in Fern Park last Wednesday night.
Calderon lives in the Lake of the Woods subdivision, and he said he let Barkley out for a potty break around 10:45 p.m. when a coyote appeared suddenly and took the dog.
"Only one second … only one second. I don't know," Calderon said.
Calderon described the coyote's movement as swift, likening it to a horse, and said it picked up Barkley by the neck and ran off.
Calderon found Barkley dead in a corner and brought him back home, covering him with a blanket. He buried Barkley with his blanket and toys and has not changed anything in the house since.
