Middlesbrough saw 59 bonfires recorded across the town as part of annual November 5 celebrations. A report going in front of all councillors explained that following bonfire night, a two week cooling off period has been observed due to the fire sites being “toxic”.

As a result, the clear up programme could not start until November 20. A full meeting of Middlesbrough Council will take place on Wednesday November 26 and numerous of the executive reports discuss the clear up process following bonfire night. The report of executive member for neighbourhoods, Labour Councillor Ian Blades, confirmed that there were a total of 59 bonfires across the town.
