MADISON (WKOW) -- With Thanksgiving approaching, some may worry a big holiday meal could derail their healthy eating goals.
A registered dietitian with Emplify Health by Gundersen says the holiday doesn't need to disrupt an otherwise balanced diet. She says what you eat day to day matters far more and still leaves room for some pumpkin pie.
"Eighty percent of the time you want to focus on foods that nourish your body and support your health, and then that other 20 percent can be for pleasure and fun," said Halley Molstad, RD, of Emplify Health by Gundersen.
Molstad also recommends pacing yourself and listening to your body to avoid overeating and feeling uncomfortable after the meal.
