ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — With the Federal Aviation Administration predicting Tuesday as the peak travel day — about 52,000 flights scheduled nationwide — the holiday rush is already pushing U.S. air travel to new records.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport reported at least four cancellations and just at least 103 delays by Monday evening.

Some travelers are skipping the airports altogether. More than 1.3 million additional people are choosing to drive this year compared with last year, according to AAA.

The agency says a record-breaking 73 million people are expected to hit the road for Thanksgiving, making driving the most popular way to reach holiday destinations.
