A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder following a shooting incident in Sheffield that left a 16-year-old boy in a life-threatening condition. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 5.15pm on London Road in the Highfield area, prompting a swift response from police. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. In a statement, South Yorkshire Police confirmed the arrest of the teenage boy, who is currently in custody. The police have also implemented a road closure on London Road as investigations continue. "A teenager has been arrested and remains in custody following the shooting of a boy in Sheffield. We are committed to establishing the circumstances that led to a 16-year-old being shot on London Road and as our inquiry continues at pace, officers have made an arrest," the police stated. Superintendent Martin Simcock expressed concern over the incident, stating, "Gun crime, and violent crime has no place in South Yorkshire, and the fact that a young boy is fighting for his life is appalling and will not be tolerated." He urged the community to assist in the investigation, emphasising that even small pieces of information could be crucial. Local residents have voiced their concerns about the rising violence in the area. Sanjay Nijthawan, a resident of nearby St Barnabus Road, remarked, "It really has got worse. It used to be sort of a unique event and now it just seems to be happening quite often. I don’t know what it is or why it is, but a 16-year-old kid. Come on. It's crazy what's happening now." Another resident, Jayne Holland, shared her feelings about the community, stating, "I love living around here. I heard a helicopter last night, but nothing else. If you gave me a million pounds, I wouldn’t move. We love it here." South Yorkshire Police are actively seeking information from the public regarding the incident. They encourage anyone with details to contact them online, via live chat, or by calling 101, quoting incident number 640 of 24 November 2025. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
