Two people were on board the small Cessna that went missing Monday evening near New Orleans’ Lakefront Airport, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.

The Coast Guard and other agencies began searching for the plane Monday evening after it crashed into the water around 6:30 p.m. The plane departed from Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, the Biloxi Sun Herald reported .

No other information was immediately available about the two people on the plane, Petty Officer Cheyenne Basurto said. The search for the plane was ongoing Tuesday.

The plane is owned by Michael Carastro of Apollo Aviation, a flight school at the airport. Carastro was not on board at the time of the disappearance and was assisting the investigation, WDSU-TV reported .
