After over 80 years of serving as an educational facility in Vernal, demolition has begun on the Central Education Center on South Vernal Avenue. Most recently, the building served as the home of Central Cove preschool until the preschool moved to the new Central Cove Early Learning Center on Main Street between 1500 West and Aggie Blvd. A plaque inside the Central Education Center on South Vernal Avenue states that the Central School was constructed by the Work Projects Administration and Uintah School District in 1940-1941. Demolition started this week on the building in the southwest corner and is expected to continue to at least the end of the year. Uintah School District plans to retain ownership of that property to use for future projects.
